BUSK Minibus Driver Assessments and Training
Today, BUSK is recognised nationally and internationally as an expert in the transport of children and young people. The organisation has succeeded in placing school transport safety firmly at the top of the agenda.
Schools may already know that in most circumstances, minibus drivers must hold a D1 PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) licence or entitlement. However, school staff that hold a car licence (Category B) can legally drive a minibus as long as certain conditions are met, details of which are available upon request.
It would, nonetheless, be a serious error of judgement for school staff to drive the minibus solely on the basis that they hold a licence. The BUSK system is designed to correct poor driving behaviour arising from errors of judgement, minimising risk in the minibus driving environment, including the principles of safe minibus driving and a systematic approach to the hazards found when driving a minibus.
Unlike some other minibus driver schemes BUSK only ever uses fully qualified driver trainers with considerable experience in the analysis and remedy of driver errors. 'BUSK Minibus Complete' was established after the tragic M40 minibus accident in November 1993 when those parents worked with BUSK to produce this unique safety training package. A lot has changed since those twelve children and their teacher died whilst returning from a school trip but parents everywhere, will only have peace of mind when a member of the school staff drive their children, if they know they have been specifically and adequately trained.
BUSK minibus courses can combine both theory and practical training or driver assessments tailored to the need of your school or organisation. But more than this, BUSK educates the pupils in aspects of personal safety in transit.
